Time\/pressure test: UN Series 1 \/ Series 2, Test 1 (c) (i) and 2 (c) (i))<\/h1>\n

The time\/pressure test provides information on how quickly gas is released after ignition of the test substance under confinement and whether the resulting pressure leads to deflagration with explosive force.<\/h2>\n

The test apparatus consists of a small cylindrical autoclave with a capacity of approximately 17 mL and which is filled with 5 g of the test substance. At the lower end of the interior is the ignition system, consisting of an electric fusehead and a 13 mm x 13 mm square piece of primed cambric (linen fabric coated on both sides with a pyrotechnic composition of potassium nitrate\/silicon\/sulphur-free black powder).<\/p>\n

For liquid samples, the primed cambric is wrapped and sealed with a plastic foil in such a way that the primed cambric is not in contact with the liquid substance.<\/p>\n

The vessel is closed with a screw fitting containing a 0.2 mm thick aluminum bursting disc with a response pressure of approx. 25 bar. The ignition is triggered and the time\/pressure curve is recorded. The test is also described as UN Test 1 (c) (i) and 2 (c) (i).<\/p>\n

The time during which the pressure increased from 690 kPa to 2070 kPa is used for classification (see table).<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
