The microcalorimeter’s high heat flow sensitivity and long-term temperature stability makes it possible to measure this heat signal. Heat flow in the µW/g range can be detected.

The samples can be stored isothermally at temperatures between 4 and 150 °C for periods ranging from a few hours to several weeks. The principle of the method is a twin-type calorimeter that measures the difference between the heat flow reference and the sample. A thermoelectric sensor reacts to the temperature difference by generating a potential over the sensor according to the Seebeck effect. This measuring method is a passive measuring method and is ideal for slow reactions.

The system features very precise temperature control and high calorimeter sensitivity, enabling measurements with high stability, low signal-to-noise ratios and high reproducibility. The manufacturer guarantees temperature stability with drift of less than ± 100µ°C within a 24-hour period.

A multicalorimeter with six minicalorimeters is currently installed inside the microcalorimeter. The required sample size is approx. 2.5 g or 3.0 mL. Both liquid and solid samples can be measured.

This measurement method can be used to evaluate the storage stability of a test substance. This method offers greater safety when stored in a tank while also providing data in connection with the new SAPT parameter or the SP 386 regulation (for details, see UN transport guideline: Manual of Tests and Criteria, Rev. 7 [2019], and UN Model Regulations, Rev. 21 [2019]).

The consilab team is always happy to provide you with more detailed information upon request.
