Another GLP inspection successfully passed
Our laboratories were inspected again as scheduled in October 2019 by the Department of Chemical Safety and the Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) of the Darmstadt Regional Council. We have now received official certification that consilab continues to be a GLP test facility for categories 1 and 5 from the Hessian Ministry for the Environment, Climate Protection, Agriculture and Consumer Protection.
The consilab team once again impressed the inspectors with its well-equipped laboratories and experienced staff – and successfully passed the GLP inspection. We were again supported by our external partner for quality assurance, isomehr GmbH, Saarbrücken.
Since the last regularly scheduled inspection, we have of course further expanded our GLP portfolio to meet the needs of our customers. We are grateful for the suggestions and requests from our customers and are especially pleased about their willingness to discuss possible solutions with us. This is the best basis for intelligently expanding our offerings. We are eager to discover the future challenges our customers will present to us and the new methods we will be able to use to meet them. We are pleased to demonstrate that we remain as flexible, reliable and customer-focused as always.
You can see the GLP methods we currently offer here on our homepage in the “Services” section.
We are fine and free from Corona
Despite the currently difficult circumstances, the consilab team is upbeat, healthy, and always here for you.
The first two weeks of social distancing have left us in the best of health and our entire consilab team remains fully operational.
Of course, we too have taken some precautions to ensure that this remains the case.
The newly recommended hygiene rules are already routine for our laboratory, since we have been following such rules for years now. Although we apply these rules because of the many unknown substances that we measure, they are also effective against the transmission of viruses.
What is new for us is that we must maintain as much distance from each other as possible. We did indeed have to get used to that. To make it a bit easier for ourselves, we have divided up into shifts wherever possible. Half of our consultants are working from a home office. After a week, we swap out. We are temporarily conducting team meetings, discussions and sometimes HAZOPs as well via telephone and videoconferencing. We are of course always available for our customers by phone and e-mail and are also happy to answer your technical questions.
This way we can maintain social distancing, combine our know-how as always and still be there for our customers at all times.
We are doing everything we can to stay healthy and ready for work. Please do so yourself as well!

On the way to optimal staffing
As usual, we haven’t been sitting idle during the past few months and have continuously been interviewing applicants in an effort to find precisely the employees who will fit perfectly into the Consilab team, both professionally and personally. We are pleased to report that our search has been successful in all areas.
New employees at the Frankfurt location:
We were able to gain a new expert in the field of thermal stability with Dr. Christine Schiewer. Dr. Schiewer received her doctorate from the University of Göttingen on the topic of “Reactivity of biomimetic model complexes for iron-sulfur clusters”. Since she often had to deal with hazardous substances in connection with the analysis for this work, her interest in key safety data had already grown there. She has been able to further develop her expertise in this field in the Consilab team since August.
Mr. Julian Hartmann holds a Master of Science degree in chemistry with a focus on technical chemistry from TU Darmstadt. Mr. Hartmann started work in January 2019 in the Consilab laboratory, where he is now in charge of key safety data, in particular the determination of flash point, ignition temperature and explosion limits, as well as the area of thermal stability.
Mr. Tobias Shepherd completed his training as a chemical laboratory assistant at Provadis in the summer. He started Immediately afterward in the Consilab laboratories, where he was first trained in the measurement of key safety data. He has in the meantime established himself in the dust laboratory.
With Ms. Stephanie Geb, we have successfully recruited a chemical laboratory assistant with several years of experience in the area of analytics. Ms. Geb has been applying her experience in the Consilab laboratories in the GLP area since October of last year.
New employees at the Leverkusen location:
Dr. Bettina Hillmann completed her studies in chemistry at TU Berlin, where she received her doctorate in the subject of biophysical chemistry. She then gained many years of experience with a large company where she supervised various projects. Dr. Hillmann can now apply her wealth of project experience wonderfully to the wide range of tasks of the Consilab team, which she has been supporting since November.
Ms. Vivian Maiwald is a trained chemical laboratory assistant. She began working intensively with dusts, especially coal dusts, while she was still a trainee. She is now applying this experience in the Consilab laboratory, where since April she has not only been testing dust for combustibility but also has been integrated into the measurement of other key safety data.
The whole Consilab team is happy about the new members and has already welcomed them all warmly into the group of colleagues.
Even small children are interested in chemistry
Colorful experiments were conducted once again during Project Week at the Central Elementary School in Hungen. Kids in classes 1 through 4 determined pH levels, split colors into their components and saw many interesting experiments that produced plenty of sizzle. Dr. Maike Möller from Trais-Horloff offered the project for the second time in Hungen and was especially pleased by the intense interest shown by girls. The myth that the natural sciences are for boys is obviously not true in Hungen. Thanks to materials donated by consilab GmbH from Frankfurt/Main, the kids were able to conduct many experiments themselves. The Central Elementary School in Hungen and Dr. Möller want to continue pursuing their shared goal of getting even young children interested in the natural sciences early on.
15th International Symposium on Loss Prevention 2016
The 15th Loss Prevention Symposium was held in the university town of Freiburg on 5 – 8 June 2016, returning to Germany after 39 years. About 500 international participants from process and plant safety attended the symposium in the Freiburg Concert Hall, where they discussed current issues in the area of explosion prevention and protection, risk assessment and and process safety. As at all of the recent symposia, experts from consilab GmbH were also present this year. The company not only had a presence here with an exhibition booth but also acted as a gold sponsor for the event. With a total of six lectures and a poster from research projects, consilab GmbH was also involved in sharing expertise and in the productive discussions at the three-day symposium.
consilab comes to Chempark Leverkusen
Over the course of the year we considered ways to even better fulfill our motto: “we are where our customers need us to be.” We quickly came up with an idea and have spent the last few months developing, planning, organizing and establishing its implementation.
We are now proud to be able to announce the launch of our new Leverkusen location. Our new site is located in building Q18L in Chempark Leverkusen. This location makes it much easier for our customers from North Rhine-Westphalia to reach us, with the biggest advantage for companies within Chempark Leverkusen being that we can now simply pick up samples such as those for DSC readings. Three of our most experienced experts from various areas of plant safety – Dr. Jörg Horn, Sebastian Kimpel and Carlota Hernandez Gurí – are now available to you in Leverkusen. These experts are supported in the laboratory by Katharina Stegemann and Wolfgang Bauer, who have likewise gained relevant experience at the Frankfurt location.
We of course provide you with the same excellent service from our Leverkusen location that you are accustomed to receiving from our original location in Frankfurt. We are a team. It goes without saying, therefore, that we will always support you with the best expertise, regardless of the location.
Our experienced team in Leverkusen is always happy to answer any questions you might have by phone at +49 (0)214-2605-56458. You are also welcome to make an appointment with us by phone for a tour of our on-site laboratory.
